Handstand Fundamental is for people who want to do a free-standing handstand but don't know where to begin.
This class helps kick-start your handstand journey even if you are a beginner. We will build the required strength and mobility, and learn how to kick up, exit safely and balance on our hands. Students who can already do a handstand will work with more complex shapes, entries and patterns.
What you will learn
Beginners will learn:
- Building the strength and endurance to hold a 60s chest-to-wall handstand
- Taking steps with your hands inverted
- Releasing and stretching the necessary muscles to allow your shoulders to go into an overhead position.
- Slowly building your confidence and awareness when being upside-down by clocking in inversion time
- How to kick up to the wall and exit a handstand safely
- How to utilise your fingers and shoulders to balance a handstand with wall drills
- Being able to catch and hold a handstand on the floor and bail out of a handstand safely when losing balance
For practitioners who can already catch and hold a 30s free stranding handstand, we will work with more complex tasks like shapes, different entries and exits, presses, leg patterns, weight shifts, and so on.
Why Handstand?
Handstand builds strength and mobility for the shoulders and forearms and fortifies your wrists. It motivates and encourages you to be more mobile even in the lower body simply because certain positions require a certain level of mobility. It also builds stability, body awareness, inverted awareness and confidence in going upside down.
It can also build a stronger mentality, and force you to be disciplined and patient, which involves doing the same work over and over again while slowly getting stronger and better at it each session. It is one of the practices where one would do the same drill for months. The repetitions and time required to master each drill is may not be fun for some, but the end result is truly rewarding.
Need we say that handstands look cool and is a super fun skill to have? It is also great for social media posting, and you can even show it off to your friends and family. The best part is -- You can do a handstand anywhere as long as there is a ground!
