Wei-An has spent his whole life falling down; it's a by-product of perpetually thinking he can do more than he actually can, whether that meant trying to spin on his head or backflip before he was ready, or learn how to snowboard on his own. And though he may not be the best at those activities, he's become quite good at falling. He has, in fact, built his contemporary practice around his love-hate relationship with gravity, and the connections this relationship has with the psychological state of flow.
Over the course of his career, he's worked with artists such as Matej Kejžar, Gabrielle Nankivell, Luke Smiles, Olé Khamchanla, Liu Yen-Cheng, Lee Mun Wai, Christina Chan, Sita Ostheimer and Shahar Binyamini. And more recently as an independent artist, Wei-An's work has taken him to places such as Seoul, Victoria BC, London, and Luxembourg, In 2022, Wei-An received a commission from Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay to present a work-in-progress of his solo work, A Reason for Falling, as part of the 2022 edition of the da:ns festival.
About the The Art of Falling Mini Intensive 2
In this mini-intensive, Wei-An will be zeroing in on a number of specific elements of The Art of Falling. Rather than covering a broad base of ideas around falling and floorwork, the four sessions of this mini-intensive focus on digging deep into ideas and techniques. This aims to provide participants with the framework and tools to continue developing their familiarity with the floor and the ability to give in to gravity beyond the experience of the workshop setting.
